SlutWalk Charleston

It started with the careless words of a police officer in Toronto:

“Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.”

Soon, women and men all across the globe were standing up and speaking against this poisonous idea that has infected our society: that the victim is responsible for her or his own sexual assault.

Here in Charleston, SC, even though we are over 900 miles away from Toronto, we believe that victim-blaming is a universal issue, and merely a symptom of a larger problem. Our goal is not only to raise awareness about sexual assault, but to also challenge the views of those indoctrinated by the rape culture we live in. To bring this issue out into the open, creating a public forum where we can confront the stigmas behind sexual assault.

Our hope is that even though this is a worldwide problem, we can make changes in our own community, which will affect generations to come. We seek to assist local organizations working to help women and men who have been assaulted, and to bring attention to their cause.

We invite women and men, young and old, the scantly clad and the turtle-necked trailblazers, and everyone in between, to join us in bringing an end to victim-blaming.

Stand up against the stigma. Join the SlutWalk.
Just checking in to see if a date had been confirmed for Slutwalk Charleston--I'm trying to get a group of people to come down for it from Clemson so I want to start spreading the word!

We were just turned down by the City of North Charleston, so at this time, no.  But we’re pushing for either April 8th (Sunday) or 14th (Saturday).

My name is Mindy Radabaugh, and I am a 22 year old college student from Ottawa, Ohio. A few years ago, I was a believer that abortion was wrong. I was always taught that abortion was something horrible. I couldn’t imagine anyone who would be willing to make that…
